About Us
The Windermere Valley Museum and Archives is managed by a dedicated group of volunteers known as the Windermere District Historical Society.
We invite you to share our excitement about the history of our Windermere Valley.

The Windermere District Historical Society holds two meetings a month (except in summer when we are busy with museum activities).  Join us!!

The business meeting is at 2 pm on the second Friday of the month.  The monthly general meeting is held the third Friday of every month and features guest speakers, show and tell or field trips along with refreshments.  The aquisitions group meets every Tuesday evening.

The museum employs a part-time curator and summer students who help the volunteers to run the museum. The historical society publishes quarterly newsletters full of interesting stories and information.

Historical Society Special Annual Exhibit
Each year we have a different theme for our special exhibit. These displays have highlighted different aspects of local history including commmunities, institutions, commercial and industrial enterprises.

In summer 2011, our display was all about toys - Toys Alive.

Things are always changing at the museum - come back often to check out the latest!
Archives and Research
The archives are housed in a waterproof, fireproof vault and include diaries, letters, business files, minute books and other archival material documenting the history of local first nations and pioneers.

Also in the collection are old maps and surveys of the region.

The museum is the custodian of a large photographic collection that may be of interest to researchers and the general public.  More information here
